Press release on behalf of the City Fire Department, (name withheld). On approximately 620 this morning, at the 1,700 block of North Bryant, there was a check smoke call that came in to check smoke inside while en route. The two responding initial companies were upgraded and given the commercial alarm response. They arrived on scenes to find that 10,000 square foot multi-room vacant structure. With heavy smoke issuing, it's a single story structure, heavy smoke issuing from the attic and all eaves around the building, the majority of the fire was located just back east from the entrance that set on the front of the building facing Bryant. The fire was knocked down, but it had spread into the attic. Firewall stopped from spreading any further. This is expected to be close to $100,000 worth of damage. We do have fire investigators en route to check the building. The structure was open, doors unlocked, so we do believe there may have been. someone that actually started this fire that should not have been in the building.
