Driver hits pole while avoiding dog, minor injury

A 47-year-old man was driving at normal street speed when he swerved to avoid a dog and hit a light pole near Fifth Ave in San Diego. He got out of the car by himself and was found sitting on a curb. The car had front end damage and the airbags deployed, but there was no intrusion into the passenger area. He had a small abrasion on his left hand and no other injuries or pain. He was alert, not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and able to make his own medical decisions. Emergency crews explained the risks of not going to the hospital, but he chose to refuse transport and planned to stay with his car. He was told to call 911 again or go to an emergency room if his condition changed.
